BEC stands for battery elimination circuit. This circuit powers the servos and Rx. 3 amps of electricity can be diverted from the motor to power the servos when needed. The BEC also has logic which senses the battery voltage, and at the low end of voltage, the BEC will shut down power to the propeller assuring the rx and servos with the last bits of electric power, and thus a safe landing.
An electronic speed control or ESC is a device mounted on board an RC Helicopter in order to vary its drive motor's speed, its direction and even to act as a dynamic brake in certain controllers.
ESCs designed for radio-control helicopters do not require a braking feature (indeed, turning it on would likely result in the main rotor assembly being severely damaged) nor do they require reverse direction. Many high-end helicopter ESCs do provide a "Governor mode" which fixes the motor RPM to a set speed, greatly aiding CCPM based flight.
In an RC Helicopter, the BEC is typically part of the electronic speed control (ESC). BEC allows such a model to carry only one battery (the motive power battery) instead of two (motive power, and a separate battery to operate the R/C equipment). A BEC-equipped ESC meant for airplane use often incorporates a low-voltage-cutoff (LVC) circuit which can sense the voltage drop caused when the battery has little charge left in it. It then cuts the power to the 'drive' motor in order to provide the 'steering' servo(s) with enough power to be able to bring the model safely back to the operator.

If the aircraft should land or crash in an unexpected location and become lost, the pilot can enable the Aircraft Locator Option. The Aircraft Locator Option is engaged by turning off the transmitter. When the ESC does not receive a signal from the transmitter for 30 seconds, it will start to send an alarm to the motor. The sound of the alarm will aid the pilot to locate the aircraft.
