The Trex 500 has almost all of the stability of a 600 but is a lot more responsive like the Trex 450. The batteries aren't too much more than a Trex 450, but the flight time is too short. You can run 2 x 3s batteries in series with this heli or the more efficient method of 1 x 6s 2200mAh - 3300mAh.
Transmitter – Spektrum DX6i
The 6-channel DX6i uses the same full-range DSM2™ technology found in the Spektrum DX7 and includes an impressive list of programming features for helicopters that are simple to access and use. The DX6i is also compatible with all existing Spektrum aircraft receivers. Whatever kind of flying you do, the DX6i can be used for any existing Helicopter that requires 6-channels or less. This is perfect for the Trex 450 RC Helicopter and about half the price of a DX7.
Receiver – Spektrum AR6200
The AR6200 DSM2 6-channel receiver is a great solution for any helicopter requiring up to six channels. This DuaLink receiver simultaneously gathers information from two receivers that is processed by Spektrum software that combines it to form the most vivid picture of an RF signal. This dual path redundancy, plus the fact each of the two receivers is located in a slightly different location, exposes each to a different RF environment and creates a bulletproof RF link in all conditions. The range would be further than you would ever fly safely. This may seem a little to much bullet proofing but saves you worrying when flying.
Gyro – Futaba GY401
This is the GY401 Gyro with SMM Technology from Futaba. This is a High Performance, Compact and Lightweight (AVCS) Angular Vector Control System gyro developed for model helicopters. Because the sensor and control circuit are integrated, it is simple to install. This is spot on the money, as close to plug and play as you will get.This is now seen as an “older” type of Gyro although still readily available. It is a simple and robust winner and will be around for some time.
Motor - Align 500L Brushless motor (1600kv)
Highly efficient brushless motor for Align 500 Class RC helicopters, it performs with superior torque and power, with 6S Lipo pack for TREX 500 helicopter, great economical and efficient choice. This motor is maintenance free, high torque, high efficiency, stable and quiet. High-speed ball bearings, powerful magnetic out-runner rotor. These brushless motors are designed with a new radiator system. The motors are built with an integrated cooling fan and has air ingress/egress vents, circulating cool air inside the rotor continuously. The motors efficiently lower operating temperature.

Align RCE-BL60G 60A Brushless ESC
Built-in 5-6V step-less adjustable BEC. This Align line of brushless sensor-less speed controllers is an excellent choice for Align RC 500 helicopters. You can use them with virtually any brushless out-runner or in-runner motor. The Aircraft Locator Option is engaged by turning off the transmitter. When the ESC does not receive a signal from the transmitter for 30 seconds, it will start to send an alarm to the motor. The sound of the alarm will aid the pilot to locate the aircraft.

Tail Servo - FUTABA S9257
Ideal Tail servo for use on the Align TREX 500. It complements the GY401 gyro perfectly but can of course be used with most other gyros.

3 X Servo - Futaba S9650
This is a High Torque, High Speed Digital Mini Servo from Futaba. Coreless motor, conventional servo motors have a steel core armature wrapped with wire that spins inside magnets. In a coreless design the armature uses a wire mesh that forms a cup that spins around the outside of a magnet. This arrangement is much lighter, which results in smoother operation and faster response time.

While the TREX 500 uses the mini rudder servos, many people are using the rudder servo mount from the TREX 600 to fit a standard sized servo with a little more umph.
It’s a lot more stable than the TREX 450 in a hover and flies similarly to the TREX 600. Even though it’s bigger than the 450 TREX with a flying weight that’s more than twice as much, it’s still only half that of the TREX 600, making it quite susceptible to winds over 10mph.
